For over 50 years, North Star Community Credit Union has been providing quality financial services to the people of Northwest Iowa. We strive to assist the people in our communities to become financially secure. As a member-owned cooperative, when we succeed, our community succeeds.
Our Mission
The mission of North Star Community Credit Union is to meet the financial needs of our members by providing competitive financial services, while maintaining the credit union's long-term stability and supporting the communities in which it serves.
Our History
Since 1972, North Star Community Credit Union strives to provide quality financial products and services to our members. Through many mergers we have evolved from Wilson’s Employee’s Credit Union to Cherokee Community Credit Union and since 1991, North Star Community Credit Union. We have also expanded to three locations, Cherokee, Ida Grove and Sheldon, Iowa.
As a credit union, we are owned by our members – our account holders. With each member having an equal voice in the direction and operation of the credit union. The volunteer Board of Directors is elected by our membership to oversee the credit union on their behalf. We provide valuable financial management necessities to our members and their families, with products ranging from checking accounts to high interest savings accounts and reasonable interest rates on auto, mortgage, or personal loans. North Star Community Credit Union strives to make real the credit union motto, “People Helping People.”
We are excited about the promising future of North Star. We have recently broken ground on a 14,000 square foot facility that will house our executive operations from Cherokee, Iowa. This new home will help us to add products and services to better serve our local communities while leaving us plenty of room to expand in the future.
Our Members
Any person who lives or works in the following Iowa counties is eligible to join North Star Community Credit Union: Audubon, Buena Vista, Calhoun, Carroll, Cherokee, Clay, Crawford, Dickenson, Emmet, Harrison, Ida, Lyon, Monona, O'Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pocahontas, Sac, Shelby, Sioux, and Woodbury.
Full-family membership is encouraged. All immediate family members of credit union members are eligible to join, whether they are related by blood, marriage, or adoption, no matter their county of residence. Once you have joined North Star Community Credit Union, you are eligible for all the services provided by the credit union, including saving and borrowing. See full membership requires here.
Member NCUA
Your deposits at North Star Community Credit Union are insured to at least $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The insurance is fully guaranteed by the federal government, and is designed, specifically, for credit unions. North Star Community Credit Union has met the high standards set by the federal government to qualify for this insurance. It is our promise to you that your savings are safe and sound at North Star Community Credit Union.
