How You Can Help Protect Your Privacy

North Star Community Credit Union is committed to protecting the privacy of its members. Members can help by following these simple guidelines:

Protect your account numbers, card number, PINs (personal identification numbers) and passwords. Never keep you PIN with your ATM card, Debit card or Credit Card which can provide free access to your accounts if your card is lost or stolen. In addition secure your login ID and passwords for on-line access to your accounts to prevent unauthorized access.

Use caution when disclosing your account numbers, social security numbers, etc. to other persons. If someone calls you, explains the call is on behalf of the credit union and asks for your account number, you should be very cautious. Official credit union staff will have access to your information and will not need to ask for it.

Destroy pre-approved credit card offers, receipts, and other information that could link your name to your account numbers.

Keep your information with us current. It is important that we have current information on how to reach you. If we detect potentially fraudulent or unauthorized activity or use of an account, we will attempt to contact you immediately. If your address or phone numbers changes, please let us know.

Use your own computer to access any on-line service where you are required to enter your user name and a password or use your credit cards. Other computers may have programs installed on them that capture your information.

Use virus-checking (anti-virus) software on your computer and update it frequently. Some viruses can capture important information stored on you computer such as passwords of documents and send them to someone else. For further protection, do not open e-mails from unknown sources.

Change your passwords regularly.

Remember to Exit or Log Off when you have completed any on-line sessions.
